Dementia Home Care Program

Blue Ram is proud to offer our Dementia Home Care Program for loved ones experiencing progressive memory loss. This program was designed to provide home care services with the intention of slowing the symptoms of dementia. The various stages of dementia and the inevitable loss of certain cognitive and physical abilities can make it challenging to provide the best support. Our program is structured to help alleviate these challenges and combat neurological decline. Although no cure exists for neurodegenerative disease, at Blue Ram we believe disease progression can be reduced and a high quality of life maintained.

Eliminating Stress

Dementia program
Eliminating stress is especially important for those struggling with dementia. A low-stress environment relieves anxiety, depression and allows the mind to operate free of distraction. Symptoms of dementia can cause much frustration, and compounding stress will most certainly amplify any difficulties. Our caregivers are trained and keen on removing any stress producing factors. Eliminating stress can be as simple as adjusting volumes on a television, or making a commonly used item more accessible. Certain stress can be more complex and less noticeable; such as, discussing a sensitive subject or asking the wrong questions. As our clients and caregivers spend time together, our caregivers quickly become aware of areas or situations causing stress and make the necessary adjustments to create an atmosphere that is calm and peaceful.

Consistent Activity & Exercise

Exercise
We can all agree that a stagnant lifestyle swiftly leads to physical and mental decline. Remaining active is important for every person and is especially important for those with dementia. Consistent daily activity and exercise promotes blood flow to the brain, which is essential for those in neurological decline. Increased blood flow increases neuroplasticity - the ability of the brain to reorganize and form new neural pathways. Creating new pathways can improve memory, make daily tasks easier and can even restore brain function that has been lost. We discover what activities and exercises our clients enjoy most and incorporate them into the daily care routine.

Cognitive Strengthening

Cognitive strengthening
Much like remaining active and exercising, cognitive activities also promote blood flow and form new neural pathways. Playing card games, board games, and solving puzzles are all activities that are enjoyable and mentally challenging. Thinking in-depth and problem solving are very beneficial to battling the progression of memory loss. Strengthening cognition will simplify potential challenges or forgetfulness experienced throughout the day. Listening to music, playing an instrument and in-depth conversation are also examples of cognitive strengthening activities we incorporate in our dementia program.

Daily Social Engagement

socialize
One of the most important features of our dementia care program is daily socialization and companionship. Studies have proven that daily socialization is strongly linked to living longer and living healthier. Consistent social engagement drastically reduces dementia symptoms, and it is not so difficult to understand why. Meaningful social engagement decreases depression & anxiety, helps strengthen memory recall, creates happiness & laughter and encourages more in-depth thinking. Having a companion - a true friend to trust and confide in can be life changing for someone suffering from dementia. Blue Ram was created to be the ultimate companion, friend and provider of the best care imaginable.
